2013 Conference Details

THE MILITARY ORDERS: CULTURE AND CONFLICT

The Sixth International Conference to be held at St John’s Gate, Clerkenwell, London,

on Thursday 5^th September – Sunday 8^th September 2013

The Conference will follow a similar pattern to previous conferences with four plenary speakers. There will be parallel sessions for communications, which may be on any aspect of the Military Orders, but must not last longer than 20 minutes. We expect to publish a substantial number of them. .

The Conference is likely to attract an audience of interested non-participants. For this reason, communications in English are preferred, but they may be delivered in French, German, Italian or Spanish, provided a short synopsis in English is submitted by 1^st August, 2013. Titles of communications and a brief outline should be sent on the accompanying form (Form 1) by 31 January 2013.

The Conference will include several social events and a visit, including lunch, to Cressing Temple and Little Maplestead. Residential accommodation is in the modern Rosebery Hall of residence (The London School of Economics) which has comfortable rooms, with phone and hand-basin, and shared toilet and shower facilities; each floor has also a fully fitted kitchen. There is a pleasant dining room (with full English breakfast and two lunches), and a Common Room with bar. The hall is within an easy 10 minutes walking distance of St John’s Gate. Single rooms and some twin rooms are available.

Registration Fee, non-returnable, includes two receptions, coffee, tea and visit £90.

Students/Postgraduates £50.

Please return the accompanying registration form (Form 2) by 31 January 2013.

Bursaries are available, to cover initially partial costs for postgraduates from overseas who are giving a communication; grants may also be given to UK based postgraduates should a surplus arise.

Residence £160 (single) or £230 (twin) includes 3 nights’ accommodation, breakfast and two lunches.
